Internet Advisor features Slapton.org

Shortly after being included in Micromart, Internet Advisor features the Slapton Site as one of their readers' best.

The Internet Advisor has a regular monthly sample of Websites which they feel are worthy of note. In July of 2001 they chose the Slapton Site, alongside 4 others.

Although the article was brief it was certainly an honour to be included in the magazine which boasts a British monthly circulation of about 7,000.

The (then) Features Editor, Jim Thacker, followed-up by e-mailing the .ORG and offering a make-over for inclusion in a future issue.

Jim asked how 'we' felt the Site could be improved and so he was sent the list of pending changes.

The designer asked to make the 'improvements' to the Site was Antony Webster, the art director at Proxicom and who was responsible for Abbey National's award-winning online banking Site, www.cahoot.com

My suggested list of future improvements was far too big for the magazine's budget so Antony concentrated on the Home page and the News section.

Lots of points, good and bad, were made about the original layout; in particular the News section which was 'just a long list of hyperlinks'.

The picture, right, shows the proposed new Home page layout - compared to the top, original opener.

Not all the points made were agreed with; indeed an e-mail from one reader suggested they had got it terribly wrong.

However there were some valid points on improvement and, in particular, the proposed News layout was adapted and is currently in use. The unfortunate choice of a top picture of the neighbouring village of Torcross was discarded as were the roll-over navigation buttons which operated badly.

Still, it was a worthwhile exercise and gained our Site some welcome publicity.
