HORTICULTURAL SHOW RESULTS

As usual the judges were very impressed by the high standard of all the entries in each  class. The show was opened by Mrs Mariyn Dabbs and the Cups were presented by Mrs Margaret Roper. Baskets of flowers were presented by Nathan Dore and Hannah Saunders.

RULES

Entries must be in the hands of the Secretary not later than midday of the Tuesday preceding the show.

Exhibitors are themselves responsible for the proper placing of their exhibits.

Exhibits must be delivered and staged at the place of exhibition only at the following times: Eve of show - 7pm to 9pm; Day of show - 8am to 10am.

Where the quantity to be exhibited is stated in the schedule, it must be adhered to; excess or deficiency of the number stated or size specified will result in disqualification.

The judges shall have power to cut or taste any exhibit (will not apply to knitted, embroidered or photographed items)

No exhibit shall be removed from the show before 4:30pm except under special circumstances and then by permission of the Secretary.

No protest against any alleged infringement of the rules will be considered unless given in writing to the Secretary before 3pm on the day of the show and accompanied by a deposit of 15p, which will be forfeited if the protest is regarded frivolous.

No double entries will be accepted.

All vegetables and flower exhibits (except in section E) must have been grown by the exhibitor. Pot plants must have been in the possession of the exhibitor for at least two months. Exhibits in sections D.E.F. must have been made or prepared by the exhibitor.

Entries are confined to Residents of Slapton Parish and members of the committtee.

Entry Fees: 5p for each class except 27, which is 10p. Entries in the children's classes are free.

Cups will be presented at 4pm

The Dore Cup will be awarded for classes 37, 38 & 39 but Rose classes will also count for Section Cup.

Recipe for Class 52 - Fruit cake; 7 inch tin.
5oz. margerine
5oz. caster sugar
2 standard eggs, beaten
8oz. SR flour
1 tsp. mixed spice
8oz. currents and sultanas
2oz. glace cherries, cut
2-3 tbls. milk

Sift flour and spice together. Cream margerine and sugar until soft, add eggs with a little flour. Add the rest of flour and milk and beat until smooth. Add fruit. Bake in a moderate oven at 325-350F (160-180) for 75-90 minutes.

07. 10 Runner Beans.
08. 10 French or Dwarf Beans.
09. 5 Onions grown from seed.
10. 5 Onions, globe, grown from sets.
11. 5 Onions, flat, grown from sets.
12. 10 Shallots, excluding hybrids, shown on a plate.
13. 10 Shallots, hybrid, shown on a plate.
14. 3 Leeks.
15. 3 Carrots, stump.
16. 3 Carrots, long.

The patterns for Classes 76 and 77 are obtainable from the Secretary; these garments will be donated to the babies ward at Derriford Hospital.

Section E
78. A SONG TITLE Fresh flowers and foliage etc (space 2ft).
79. A JAPANESE flower arrangement (space 18ins).
80. A TOPIARY TREE for a bedroom, dried flowers, ribbons etc (space 18ins).
81. An arrangement incorporating fresh flowers and foliage, Tea Lights and candles, for a BBQ table (space 18ins).
82. A Decorated Ribbon, in any medium, to go on a hand-held Prayer Book, for the Bride to carry on her big day (space 10ins).
83. A Decorated Matchbox, using fresh or dried flowers (not exceeding 4ins over all).
84. Novice Class. An arrangement of fresh flowers and foliage in a small basket (space 18ins square).
A novice is a person who has not won a cup in this section.

Section F
85. A miniature garden on a plate (space up to 10ins), 5yrs and under.
86. A miniature garden on a plate (space up to 10ins), 6-8yrs.
87. A miniature garden on a plate (space up to 10ins), 9yrs and over.
88. A picture in any medium (space up to 20ins), 5yrs and under.
89. A Piece of computer Art, 6-8yrs.
90. A Piece of computer Art, 9yrs and over.
91. A Decorated wooden spoon (size 14ins), 5yrs and under.
