John Fancy: 1913-2008

John the great old gentleman of Slapton has died at the grand age of 95. His death was peaceful after a short downturn in health at Torbay hospital.

He will be sadly missed.

Devon County Council indicated its intention today (7 Feb) to seek planning permission to re-open the A379 on Slapton Line as a matter of urgency on a slightly diverted route.

Parish councils which surround the storm-hit, 250-metre stretch of the A379 at Slapton Sands have banded together to call for a solution to the loss of this valuable section of road.

Slapton Line road news - Jan 2001
Violent storms on Thursday 11th and Friday 12th January finally did what they had been threatening to do in previous years; the road separating the famous Slapton Ley and Sands was breached.
